The southeast Alaskan coast is the traditional homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people. Sealaska is dominated by large contiguous blocks of mature, healthy forests supporting native flora and fauna. Committed to the protection of Alaskan waters, the project includes sensitive watersheds that are important sources of drinking water for Alaskan communities in Hydaburg and Hoonah and critical habitat for salmon. For multiple generations, the project area will be untouched by commercial harvesting. Shareholders will retain full access to the area for cultural needs such as logs for totem poles, other cultural projects, and non-timber development opportunities.
